Dishwasher malfunction- not draining - help - tips

One of the many appliances we have in the modern area which helps make our lives a little bit easier is the dishwasher. This device sprays your dirty dishes down with water and detergent then rinses and dries them as well. Your dishes come out (mostly) spotless and sanitized. Modern dishwashers are really something to behold.

When modern appliances like dishwashers start to malfunction we are often burdened by this inconvenience. Toaster not toasting bread that well anymore? Garbage disposal getting clogged? Dishwasher not draining anymore? These are all annoying events. Today we will be speaking about the latter of these problems.

#1 Culprit – Large Debris

Sometimes we get a little lackluster in our dish pre-scraping and leave too big of pieces on them before putting them into the washer. These large pieces are too large to fit down the drain in your dishwasher and pile up over time.

Remove your baskets from the dishwasher and look in there toward the bottom. See if you can see the drainage area. Is there debris there? Good, clean it out and see if this does the trick. You can even pour some baking soda and vinegar down the drain to help clear it up.

#2 Garbage Disposal

Often times the disposal and dishwasher are connected. This can make for the occasional clog. Run your garbage disposal for a while as water is being run through it. If this doesn’t clear it out you may need to disconnect the hoses & drainage tubes and see if they are clogged.

#3 Dishwasher Filters

These filters often do a great job of keeping waste out of your dishwasher drain. But items can also get wedged behind the drain. Pieces of food or broken glass are usually the problem. Get a screw-driver and remove the filter. Check to see if there is something jamming it up.

If the filter is dirty or clogged give it a good manual cleaning using a tough brush and soap. Replace the filter and see if this does the trick.

Conclusion

If your dishwasher still isn’t working then please contact a professional repair man. This may be a job well worth his help. If you can spend a hundred bucks to avoid having to purchase a new dishwasher then this is great news.
