When it comes to major plumbing fixes it is usually a good idea to call your plumber. Plumbing isn’t something which can be learned overnight by watching a YouTube video. It requires a clear understanding of how pipes use gravity to move liquids and how pipes fit together properly to ensure this happens correctly.

There are some simple additions you can utilize to make your bathroom better though. What about a bidet add-on which you can install yourself? These are all the rage right now and require 15 minutes to install. People who have these bidets swear by them. A bidet addition can make your bathroom experience better.

There are additions you can make which make your bathroom more efficient as well. Low-Flow Faucet Aerators can reduce your water consumption by as much as 50%, saving water and money on the process. They are screw-on devices that fit the end of your sink faucet (standard 15/16-inch threads). Just unscrew the old aerator counterclockwise (use pliers if stuck), wrap threads with Teflon tape, and screw on the new one clockwise. Available for $5-10 each.

A toilet seat upgrade is a very popular option as well. These can add a luxurious feel and even improve safety. A soft-close or quick-release model is ideal for easier cleaning. Simply unfasten the wing nuts under the bowl with a wrench, lift off old seat, position new one, and tighten bolts. No water involved, but it’s a simple plumbing-adjacent swap for $20-40.

Replacing the toilet flapper is a job which can be done in ten minutes. A new flapper will stop current leaks and prevent you from losing money, one slow drip at a time. Simply turn off the water to your toilet and flush to empty it. Unhook the chain from your old flapper and replace with the new one. Re-attach the chain, fill the bowl and you are all done.
